The Castles

valoisThe castle of Nortkerque is built on the remains of the castle. The places belonged from the 1st century to 1837 to the Dauchel family then to the family of Artois. César Dauchel was bodyguard of Louis XVI and became mayor after 1789, deputy of Pas-de-Calais under the Empire. The waterworks institution owes a lot to its determination. As for Edmond d'Artois, another resident, he owes him at Nortkerque the station. Elected mayor, he wanted to see trains stop near his castle and as he knew Monsieur de Rothschild, the powerful shareholder of the Northern Railways ... The station found a place halfway between Audruicq and Pont-d'Ardres
